Miriam Learning Center provides special education support services to children who attend St. Louis charter schools, public, parochial and private schools. Yearly, over 1100 children receive special education support from Miriam at their school, at our Center located at Miriam School in Webster Groves, or in the child's home or community library.

POSITION:  SUBSTITUTE SPECIAL EDUCATION CERTIFIED TEACHER

STATUS:  PART-TIME, AS NEEDED, DAY HOURS, AND AVAILABILILTY OF A MINIMUM OF TWO FULL DAYS PER WEEK

POSITION INCLUDES SHORT AND LONG-TERM ASSIGNMENTS IN ST. LOUIS CITY CHARTER SCHOOLS (elementary, junior, and high school).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree from accredited school in a related field
  • Must have a Missouri certification in special education
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience in special education
  • Experience in providing educational services to children and/or adolescents who have educational disabilities or learning difficulties.

REPORTS TO:  MLC TEACHER SUPERVISOR

PAY:  $41 PER BILLABLE HOUR

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Education Teacher provides cohesive services in the general education and/or special education setting, follows the schedule provided by the school, and provides specialized instruction based upon IEP goals and individual needs.  Must feel comfortable taking charge in new situations and working independently. Must be able to respond to work requests very quickly via email or phone.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To provide a professional assessment of each student's weaknesses and strengths as they relate to their educational diagnosis.
  2. To follow the special education teacher's daily/weekly schedule and meet student's weekly special education minutes. 
  3. To provide measurable data and work samples specific to the student's IEP goals.
  4. To provide quarterly progress reports, IEP goals, behavioral plans, and/or present level of performance as requested by special education coordinators.
  5. To ensure the safety of the students and staff by following the school's discipline policy.
  6. To support Partner School staff by providing expertise input and advice in the area of special education and related services.
  7. To follow the Partner's Schools calendar with regular attendance and notify the school staff and MLC staff in case of an absence.
  8. To submit billing in a timely manner.
  9. Any other duties as specified by the supervisor and/or special education coordinator.
