Miriam Learning Center provides special education support services to children who attend St. Louis charter schools, public, parochial and private schools. Yearly, over 1100 children receive special education support from Miriam at their school, at our Center located at Miriam School in Webster Groves, or in the child's home or community library.

POSITION:  TUTOR

  1. Special Education Certified Teachers
  2. Content teachers certified in math and/or science grades 9-12

STATUS:  Part-time, as needed, day and evening hours available, and availability of a minimum of two days per week

                Positions include tutoring clients, 1:1, in St. Louis City, St. Louis County, and surrounding areas (elementary, junior, and high school)

                Tutors needed for summer and during the 2018-2019 school year

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors or Master's degree from accredited school in a related field
  • Must have a Missouri certification in special education, math, and/or science
  • Requires a minimum of 3 years full-time teaching experience in special education or general education
  • Experience in providing educational services to children and/or adolescents who have educational disabilities or learning difficulties.

REPORTS TO:  MLC Teacher Supervisor

PAY:  $41 per billable hour off site; $31 per hour on site

POSITION SUMMARY:

The special education teacher or content teacher evaluates a student's academic issues as they pertain to select school subjects and provides instruction to improve upon deficit areas. Must feel comfortable taking charge in new situations and working independently. Must be able to respond to work requests very quickly via email or phone.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. To provide a professional assessment of each child's weaknesses and strengths as they relate to school subjects and/or educational diagnosis.
  2. To assess child and family expectations of treatment.  To help meet their goals or assist the family in reaching realistic goals for treatment.
  3. To develop a treatment plan and update the plan as appropriate.
  4. To provide appropriate treatment based upon a child's academic assessment.
  5. To maintain adequate progress notes for licensing, insurance and other stakeholders.
  6. To maintain contact with other professionals at the Center involved with the case to ensure coordinated treatment efforts.
  7. To submit billing in a timely manner.
  8. To refer the child and/or family for community services as needed.
  9. Any other duties as specified by the supervisor.
