JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY

The Switching Post Manager plans, organizes, implements and manages all operations of Miriam Switching Post to maximize the revenue generated to support Miriam's educational programs. The Manager will work with the Director of Development to develop and administer the annual budget, will be responsible for meeting revenue goals, and working effectively with the business office, volunteers, staff, donors, and customers.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Oversees operations that deliver results consistent with the mission and core values of the Miriam organization
  • Manages effective and efficient volunteer management program
    • Assist in developing volunteer job descriptions
      1. Customer Service
      2. Front Desk Coordinator
      3. Inventory Coordinator
      4. Sales Associate
      5. Visual Merchandiser
    • Motivates volunteers and staff in a retail setting
  • Schedules appropriate staffing which will deliver excellent customer experience
    • Coordinates volunteer recognition opportunities to promote retention
    • Assigns and delegate - see others' strengths and help them to find meaningful tasks at the store
    • Distributes and enforce volunteer guidelines, policies and procedures. Evaluate and revise as needed
  • Partners with the business office to support volunteer recruitment and orientation, event coordination, marketing needs, etc.
  • Provides effective and efficient donor processes to ensure positive donor experience
  • Ensures all paperwork and recordkeeping is up to date and accurate
    • Proper accounting procedures, cash flow, payroll, security and deposits of all funds. Transfer appropriate records to the business office to assure timely reporting, coding and payment to clients and vendors
  • Responsible for safety, maintenance and security of building, grounds and content
  • Assesses and address day-to-day space needs and cost-efficient turnover of merchandise
  • Maximizes profit on donated items
  • Plans and implement creative sales events
  • Proper and timely opening and closing of the store
  • Cash management, close out of register/books end of day



QUALIFICATIONS

  • A GREAT attitude is a MUST! Excellent customer and donor service is our top priority as well as providing a fun and productive work environment.
  • High School or GED required, Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Volunteer management experience in a nonprofit environment preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Computer savvy; experience with Microsoft products, database software, social media, marketing, and/or photography preferred
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Knowledge of antiques, furniture, collectibles and jewelry preferred
  • Good business sense - can make decisions based on best return

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time position
  • Current hours of operation are Monday through Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Days and hours of work will be agreed upon with the part-time Assistant Manager
  • This job operates in a professional retail environment
  • This position has supervisory responsibility to donations manager and several volunteers
  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    • The employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move products and supplies, up to 50 pounds with proper tools and equipment.
